Take me with you, take my hand. Fly me to a better place, Need to know how angels embrace. -- 'Immersion', Persephone |
Persephone |

"PERSEPHONE is Sonja Kraushofer
and her solo debut, Home, is a beautiful exhibit of musical and
lingual nostalgia made palatable to modern listeners. It explores the
spiritual, cultural, and other essential paths of existence that we have taken
once before, and demonstrates what made them invigorating for some, and
excruciating for others. LAME
IMMORTELLE (the name under which Sonja, Thomas and Hannes have recorded for
five years) has taken a break for a while to allow them all to do solo albums.
For Home Sonja invited Tobias Hahn and Dirk Riegert, the two
masterminds behind JANUS and producers for bands like SOPOR AETERNUS and SAMSAS
TRAUM."

¾ 2002: Home "The three musicians [Sonja Kraushofer, Tobias Hahn and Dirk Riegert] gracefully move from rhythmically oriented songs with strong medieval leanings to melodically rich, dark neo-classical pieces; at times they fuse these diverse musical influences, and occasionally they rely on Sonjas voices as the sole instruments. In a sense, Home is a dark blend of the best moments of SOPOR AETERNUS or DEAD CAN DANCE, but without being a mere copy. Besides many classical musicians (violin, cello, bassoon, oboe, clarinet and much more) this album features Wim, ex-guitar player of CHRISTIAN DEATH. "

This thought is being used by the band and during 2004 they have performed once a month since the release of the cd Atma Gyan in the early springtime. Now the years over and its time to close it by means of 'Mera Sangeet Kho Gya'. This CD is a warm bath full of pleasurable sounds and poetic lyrics, with literary references, spoken and sung by the sultry voice of Sonja Kraushofer. On this cd Sonja uses her voice also in a whispering manner which creates a nice and intimate atmosphere in combination with the instrumentation. The instrumentation is rich (violin, sitar, guitar, piano, cymbals), without having a pompuous baroque character. The tracks are varied, ranging from rhythmically challenging songs leaning towards world music to a French chanson or a uptempo song with a rock structure, such as From Within. Classical influenced tracks in the spirit of Chamber or Sopor Aeternus are not feared either. All in all it is a pleasurable album for the lover of adventurous quiet popmusic,. Mila Mar or Angelzoom. On this cd Sonja gets musical support from Matt Howden (Sieben, Hawthorn) on violin, Martin Hofert (Sopor Aeternus, ex-Janus) and no one else than producer John A. Rivers, known from various productions, Dead Can Dance for instance."
